Excluding the data from China, according to the Johns Hopkins heat map the death rate of covid19 is 4%. If only half of the cases were documented the death rate is 2%. Documented cases are increasing 20% on average every 24 hours. Regardless of the undocumented cases, we're on track to have over 1 million deaths outside of China by mid May. This is a real problem.

In the average of the last 7 days, the number of infections in Italy grew by 14%. If you extrapolate that to the next 50 days, the virus will have infected the overwhelming majority of the population. Once the majority of the population has been infected, the virus will have no escape, only minor outbreaks will occur. 80% of people will survive as we have seen.
This is exactly what has happened in the affected areas in China. THEY didn't stop the disease, it simply burned out. Given that their numbers are bullshit, I think East China has had hundreds of millions of infections, most people had no symptoms, simply went through the disease unnoticed and since the virus had no more ground to burn, it burned out. In Italy, by mid-May it's going to be over. Tens of thousands of dead (average age 80, multiple ailments before the virus), and most people won't have noticed.

Given that the US has better healthcare and lockdown could prove more efficient, it's going to be longer, but by autumn it's going to be over.

In big metropolitan cities I see it being a further problem, more people sick not being able to get treated, riots, looting, etc.

In the USA, other, less effected states will probably start banning anyone from visiting their states for up to a year. This is not a good time to be living in any major cities I could tell you that.
