COVID-19 has been in the US for nearly 3-4 months. I am a nurse and we've had an uptick in the number of flu/pneumonia like symptoms since December. They would test negative for flu and would be sent home. Now we're getting flooded with every idiot who thinks they caught the Wuhanic Plague.
The people making the decisions are not scientists or medical professionals, they are politicians. You've likely already been in contact with someone who has it and you either felt fatigued or like you had a cold or had no symptoms at all. The mortality rate is likely closer to that of seasonal flu than the current numbers reflect.
If you're basing the severity of the virus based on China's reaction you're making a huge mistake. China is on the verge of a political revolution and the government is doing everything they can to hold onto power.

Italy's healthcare system records deaths differently. If a person coincidentally had a heart attack or similar ailment and died, if they test positive for the virus they count it as a death even if it wasn't the direct cause. Theirs is still prob higher than average but that number is inflated

I went into work anyway for this same reason and everyone at my work said I looked sick and eventually got sent home. Took the next day off and got better quickly, it was probably just a cold but I seriously never get colds and was shocked my work actually sent me home
