It seems impossible to talk about religion sincerely because every single religious topic down to the very words used to express them come packed with so much presupposition and unintended meaning. This is true for most everything else, and most especially politics. I wish we could develop a brand new language without such cemented meanings to discuss all of this. It is like trying to get a real understanding of pre-Christian European religion via Bede and Christian reiterations of whichever sagas; a real understanding seems functionally impossible to form because of all this predefinition. There is also the overwhelmingly popular resistance against linguistic construction despite that fact that we absolutely need to get around these very issues. People are afraid to see the English language be diminished or debased but that is going to happen no matter what we do so long as English spreads globally and simplifies to suit a simple and wide userbase. We are not equipped to handle any religious or political question until we reckon with this dilemma within our language.
What makes matters worse is that the majority of people (even here) are perfectly content with restating slogans as a form of conversation. What can be done when most people won't bother to broach that first seal? How can anyone let go of words enough to express sincerely without letting go of phrases? We need talk about so much that is impossible to talk about, and so we have to start with the language. I don't want to sound like a cynic but I think we're fucked.

This is what I mean. The question and responses are all seemingly organic, but there are really only a handful of possible responses, and combined with the problem of language, you end up with people from across the globe giving the exact same opinion, sometimes down to the word. Every word spoken is accounted for in the script. We can't even begin to engage in these questions because of this subconscious obedience to the script, and because we refuse to construct language actively.
