“You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great - and that's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and thinking that the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.” — ELON MUSK, SPACEX
Welcome to /etm/. This is a place on Yas Forums to discuss everything space related(with a concentration on Mars). I normally post the general once a week every saturday between 8pm to 10pm UK time.
If you are new here, these videos will get you in the mood for some discussion: >What Would A Million Person Mars Colony Look Like? youtube.com/watch?v=JaimO7nvzzQ
Not memeing, I'm a jack of all trades and I learn things much faster than the average person. I'm willing to die in the name of exploration. How do I get on one of the fucking ships?

save up money and wait for the commercial emigration phase to start and just simply buy a ticket

you dont, Mars will be a jewish colony and you can expect more usury there than here on earth. IF they even pull this off at all, you gotta remember that Mars is a dead rock with nothing on it and there is no real incentive to go there besides wasting taxpayers money.
good question. give an example.. do you mean earthers lending money to people on Mars ?
Isaiah Diaz
I don't want to be one of the fucking cattle. I want to be a pioneer.
Thomas Clark
>I don't want to be one of the fucking cattle. I want to be a pioneer.
well it's a colonial mission. people are needed. Musk has already said he want to get the price per person to travel there bellow a million dollars ASAP.
>just pay 1 million dollars to go to a dead rock in space and croak from cancer in 5-10 years if not faster! there wouldnt be any physical cash, all the money on mars would be digital and (((they))) control it of course.
Ian Powell
I tried contacting him on Twitter because I didn't know how else to. Obviously I got ignored. I'm considering talking to an AF recruiter about the Space Force, unironically.
Christian Scott
>there is no real incentive to go there besides wasting taxpayers money.
no real incentive to explore beyond earth? then you are simply not human. you are without the faustian spirit and i pity you.
Ayden Gray
I meant Economic Incentive. >explore beyond earth can be all done with unmanned drones which is cheaper, faster and safer.
Isaiah Reyes
>mars Oh boy I cant wait for Trump to put the first woman on mars that he brags about at every rally.
man on the moon, women on mars. who fucking cares ? as long as europeans make a good footing there early on.... thats all that matters
Christopher Hernandez
>There's a huge incentive to set up bases on Mars for asteroid mining can be all done with unmanned drones without needing a mars base.
Parker Ross
Should build a colony on the Moon first. For one it's reachable within a timeframe where emergency support will be feasible and everybody on Earth can look up to the Moon and know people are up there at that very moment. Much better inspiration than having people bumble about on a practically invisible rock somewhere in the far distance.
Samuel King
will be anarcho syndicalist system utilizing decentralized cryptocurrency and a unionized-militaristic culture

That was one of the reasons given for Gateway, but it's looking less likely now.
yeah, 20+ years ago. blame the USgov. it's a waste of time now, our survival is more important and Mars can provide that.
Alexander Jenkins
Sorry OP, we can't go to Mars because there's people on reddit doing DIY testicle removal.
Hudson Scott
>blame the USgov. >"Hey here's a shuttle for getting to LEO. Build an IP vessel with it? No no, that's years off, we're going to build a bigger station instead, then we can do experiments like use a treadmill and bake cookies. Also we're canceling the shuttle and paying for Soyuz seats now. Don't worry, in ten years we'll be almost ready to fly Orion and hopefully Dragon and Starliner will be too. BTW Constellation canceled lol we're gonna call it SLS now and just larp Apollo shit" It's been a rough time. Btw sorry for getting Black Arrow killed, that was a dick move.
>I think it just goes to show that having a multiplanetary backup is even more important than ever
Definitely. How's things where you are? Luckily brit/pol/ convinced me to stock up on soups and stuff a couple weeks ago before everyone started "Panic buying"
Elijah Morales
holy crap mars just flew over my house
Aaron Gonzalez
Will never happen mars has no molten core and no magnetic field to protect from solar radiation and other space weather
Adrian Cox
right in the middle of londonistan I also stocked up a while ago though, haven't left the house in a week
ameribros need to bring some liberty to long lost cousins in besieged britanistan

I’d first change the propulsion system to a nuclear instead of methane. Next, I’d use a space canon which shoots you into the orbit instead of doing it with a chemical reaction.
Gavin Wright
>I’d use a space canon which shoots you into the orbit instead of doing it with a chemical reaction You'd become the first jar of jelly to enter orbit.
>Next, I’d use a space canon which shoots you into the orbit instead of doing it with a chemical reaction. Because cannons don't use chemical reaction nowadays, apparently.
Carson Mitchell
Seeing this beer virus wreak havoc on western civilization maybe Elon isn't so weird for wanting to colonize Mars as an insurance policy against shenanigans on Earth In one interview he was asked about the Moon vs. Mars and one of the reasons he gave was that the Moon was still pretty close to Earth, while Mars was well out of missile range.
True, I've always thought the "railgun up a mountain in a subway tube" concept semi-viable, the only thing I don't know is how to keep it semi-sealed while still letting the bullet/shuttle/cargo leave the 'gun'? Presuming you wanted to reduce air-resistance in the barrel. Would you call a railgun a cannon? Genuine question. Also do you guys have them? I'd assume so.
Jaxson Hughes
I was at the post office earlier. It was grim. Hopefully I'm alright. If not I expect one of you to carry on the general in my absence lol.
Infact, I dumped a load of old OPs itt archive.4plebs.org/pol/thread/217125295/ so everything needed to carry on /etm/ without me can be found there and in newer threads like this one
Evan Brown
The shorter transit time is pretty much the only physical benefit over a Mars colony, everything else makes it much more difficult to maintain in comparison. I like the inspiration thought though
It might be easier to generate a magnetic bottle with polar surface stations and orbiting rings. The size of something at L2 to shield a whole planet would be disgustingly large
If you made a fuel-oxidizer mix the atmosphere inside the tube, you could have the projectile work like a ramjet. Produce just enough thrust to counteract drag and keep the whole thing at the pressure of the outlet
Godspeed to you fellas. On a sidenote a friend of a friend sat at a meeting with Musk and bunch of engineers from SpaceX and another company that supplies parts for one of their rockets. My friend's friend was super excited about meeting the supposedly genius Musk when it turned out that his knowledge of shit SpaceX does is rather basic, stuff you'd expect any high school teacher or enthusiastic student to know. Apparently Musk talked for like 90% of the meeting about stuff thats practically freshman year of college and the SpaceX dudes all had this tired face lile they hear this monologue once a month
