There is some truth to the new lid thing, if your lid is damaged or bent (which it can be if you open a vacuum sealed lid with a bendy tool) then you shouldn't use that but if you just pop one open the old fashioned way with your hands then it's fine to reuse

That'S correct, but if the lid is damaged you will see it before eating the contents, as the vacuum wouldn't be there. Plus botulism can only occur without oxygen so a broekn lid would only make it go moldy.
