I only found out today that the church she goes to is a Kingdom Hall church, but I didn't know what that meant. I still know fuck all about them

Yes, if you aren't JW then you are excluded. If you refuse to join then you are cut out of the members life. If he has kids or medical condition then worry, there is rampant child abuse in JW which the 'elders' cover up, and they aren't allowed blood transfusions. I know one JW who went into hospital for routine op, doctors fucked up, he required blood and wouldn't consent to it, died an agonizing death.

JWs are a cult and they're not technically allowed to fraternize with others. The biggest danger imo, is for the JWs that are part of a family unit that all belong to the cult. If one of them gets kicked out or excommunicated or whatever their own family completely abandons them and they lack the social skills to cope they end up with severe mental illness. It's good your normal and can help reprogram him if he leaves.

Sadly it's a cult. My step-dad grew up in a family of them, and when he decided to stop going to 'church' his own mum stopped talking to him. To this day she won't speak to him unless it's a serious matter, because the idea is to guilt/shun them into realising they messed up and come back into the fold someday. And I'll point out that he is a Christian again now, of a decade, and that isn't good enough. You have to become a Witness again to be 'accepted'. If you get 'dis-fellowshipped' as they fall it, since your social circle is usually the Witnesses in your area and other socialisation is frowned on, it can usually mean being totally isolated and is pretty scary. He still has mental scars from it today.

See if you can't get him into a baptist church if he wants something 'different'. You can find a million Witness and family horror stories on line, there are entire websites, if you can catch him early. It's important he realise it's not his *faith* that is the issue. Just that the organisation is one of the false ones talked of in the scriptures.

Technically they can associate with family as long as they haven't been a witness or aren't another denomination of Christian, I believe. My stepdads mom wasn't told into to talk to her husband, who wasn't a witness, but that could just have been because splitting up unions would be sinful. Not 100% sure where sibling fall in that.

You MAY have some contact as they try to convert you too, but not likely, and especially not if you seem stubborn to join. They'll just consider you a bad influence on him, and work even harder to keep you separated or else turn him against you.

Like i said before, i worked with one who id consider devout daily, and really liked him. I remember him saying the congregation took turns teaching services. I utterly dont care what people believe anymore because after i got older i realized its all quite ridiculous. That is, if their beliefs dont interfer with mine. Jehovas witnesses are pretty much the cutest people on this planet. They're chrisians, but they have some flaws like denying blood transfusion if they get hurt bad. They don't believe in hell or politics, they think they're all corrupt. They dress well, don't swear and are pretty much some of the best people I've ever met. 9/10 would reccomend.
