I work hard. I enjoy my job too. Lot's of complexity and you can dive deep in to it. Only other person who shares my work ethic is 55. I am 37.
Everyone else is 21 to 27 in my team.
Any second where they are not actively required to do something, it's phone out and sit. Mindless scroll on IG or FB. A hurculean effort is required by my manager to motivate them in any aspect. They are truly zombiefied. I don't dislike them, they are good souls but their heads are empty. Everything is pure surface level and ignorance.
They still earn the same as me. Annoying but what can you do? I sleep at night knowing I tried my best with my efforts.
Eventually they'll get found out. Many of them lucked into the position and the system supports their laziness.

One of the root causes is irresponsible parenting. Boomers (like my parents) often make the dumb mistake of pre-marital pregnancy and then force themselves into marriage. Many of them were not prepared or did not plan ahead to have kids. When they finally realize that you actually have to have a stable job, your own house and functional relationship with your family (both yours and your spouse's) to raise a child right, it's already too late because they've already scarred the child in its early stages of development by negligence (because they had to work several jobs and leave the kid to some relative who would either further neglect it or abuse it), substandard education (because they themselves cannot educate their own children due to their own shitty education), and lack of values orientation (parents who fight in front of their kids, or do stupid shit in front their kids usually produce the most mentally ill kids. Divorce is the most dangerous poison in a child's development). This type of up-bringing extends in the educational system and the workplace. Kids these days see these institutions (family, school, work) as a cage, but they don't bother to free themselves or change the system. They just want escape (social media, anonymous forums, tinder) because deep down, they've been conditioned to think that, even if they exert the effort, nothing will change.
In the end, it's COPE for mental survival. Most Zoomers don't care about consequences because they're existentially numb already. I personally think that the only way to save generations today (zoomers and millennials) is to have a war. Only a war can trigger their survival instincts and force them to realize what is truly valuable. But that's just me
