This Greek "culture", as with pretty much all of the southern Europeans (Greeks, Italians, Iberians) are basically variations of what appears to have originally unified from a less formal state to a much more formalized Phoenician culture (now a supranational culture) that developed with these original tribes leaving Iberia, southern Italy and Greece and going into the Middle East via what's not Lebanon.

Collectively they just make up Mediterranean culture. But these Phoenician elites have not remained in the Med, they moved into Venice, the Netherlands, Britain and America.

So the currently degraded state of Greece and the others is a multifaceted problem regardless of how much Greeks think their culture is superior.
