Washington is great if you enjoy the outdoors and want to camp/hike. Also pretty easy to get to Oregon from there which is similar.

Just get a rental and do a road trip across the country. That's the way to do it.

Each and every state is different in some way, and the US runs the gamut from beaches to mountains to plains to rivers to deserts to tropical to boreal forests and everything in between. I live in oregon and it is a fantastic state outside of the portland zone. In the central and eastern regions there it is almost completely void of of life in some areas in the east and very peaceful and nearly endless amounts of things to see, lots of forests west of the mountains. The coast towns are very very nice but a bit chilly.

I'll second Monterey. Big Sur is nearby, with the giant redwoods, and that's a bucket list place. You could spend days hiking through the forests there alone.

The Midwest honestly has some of the best people for foreigners, they're less cunty than Californians or east coasters, but less likely to think you're retarded because you speak Spanish than southerners.
