I saw something truly amazing today. Dozens upon dozens of boomers in the food aisles, most with near empty baskets, lamenting over the lack of perishable food items whilst the canned food aisles still had some stuff on the shelves. These canned food aisles were empty. I had all the time in the world to fill my cart with canned meat and fruit. Didn't even bump into anyone whilst doing so. Save for the peanut butter aisle which had a handful of boomers staring at the ketchup on the other side lamenting that there was "only organic ketchup and it costs more". I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. These fucking troglodytes were standing there with empty carts staring at ketchup while the other side of the aisle had some peanut butter and canned fruit.

I didn't have the ability to stock my shit because I just fucking moved across the country and had a real shit case of the bad timings. Been running all over the place to get enough food (about 2 months worth atm) and each store I go out it feels more and more like I'm playing escape from tarkov. Stores were bad 3 days ago, getting worse each day. Today's grocery raid party was fucking sobering. The stores are empty. The only shit still on the shelves in quantities of more than 8 items is stuff people overlook (like spam). And I overheard some employees saying that they were not restocking the shelves "this is it once it's gone we are closed". Albeit that conversation was only at one store but im not about to assume that it isn't what is going on in general.

Food shortages where exactly? My store is low on toilet paper and purell but its got plenty of everything else.

I understand your position. Something almost like that for me but not actually a bad situation. A few months ago I moved out of an urban area in a shitty state to a sparsely populated rural area in a much better one, with my family. In January I bought some cases of MRE's and I would have prepped more but with all the work I've had still to do setting this place up and looking for a job I didn't want to spend lots of money. Thus the MRE's were a bit of insurance. In an emergency, if we eat one a day or so, they should last the four of us a week. Meanwhile, my mother and I have made two joint grocery trips in the last week and we're now stocked up for two months, longer if we really need to ration it. Out in the middle of nowhere, good terms with the neighbor who has even more prep and guns than we do. Chickens to eat too. Even if the power goes out we could fill a small pool or something with water, put goods in it ,and let it freeze at night. Would never thaw during the day if we kept it covered. Power unlikely to go out here anyway.Sparse population in this county.

Still, I wish I had done more. I wish I'd had more time. I moved out here figuring I had at least until the election to do some serious stocking up. More likely, I felt I had until 2024 or somewhere around 2030 before I'd have to worry. Had I had all the way until then I'd have prepared a couple of years worth of food, solar power (including for the water pump), and several gas cans filled with gasoline. As it is, we'll have to make do with what we have.

i went to 3 different grocery stores today just to see what things were like. 95% of everything i would normally buy was still on the shelves and in good numbers. The only things that got demolished were facial tissue and butt-hole cleaner.
