Most of what I know about the Vietnam War I learned from the museum in Hanoi, Vietnam, where of course it's referred to as the American War.
I realize virtually everything I saw there is communist propaganda but still, what was the motivation for the US to enter this war? It seemed like nothing was achieved in the end and it probably cost the US a fair bit of goodwill.
Other than a vague idea of "opposing the spread of communism", what justification was there for the war in the first place?
