Basically Romans came to Southern Germany, mixed with the locals while the Northern Part remained more or less untouched.
In fact, the Northern part (North of Hamburg) belonged to Denmark at some point, so there was a lot of mix with pure Scandinavians.
IMHO, today the genetically purest however are today found in Eastern Germany.
