Yes, the WHO's comparison between corona and seasonal flu is wrong, their 0.1% figure comes from a rough estimate of how many people get the flu in total vs those who die of it, which is different to how they obtain the corona number of 4% (By comparing reported cases to deaths), for the comparison to make sense we have to take the number of reported cases of the flu (AKA Those that get bad enough to actually be reported) and yes, in that case we do get a 10% fatality rate.

The real problem here is that there is a reason why we can make that estimate for the flu (Because it's common and old enough) that doesn't exist for corona, we just don't know the proportion of people with asymptomatic or mild cases and that's what is scary, we know the flu rarely kills or even severely afflicts anyone who isn't elderly or immunocompromised, but we don't know what the parameters are for corona because we don't know how many people have asymptomatic or mild cases, because the virus simply hasn't been around long enough for that to be feasible.

So what is truly scary is the uncertainty of it all, when all is said and done it may turn out that corona has a microscopic death rate and most of the world already has it right now and we didn't even realize it, or it may turn out that asymptomatic and mild cases are the minority and most who catch it get very ill and die like with MERS.

The only explanation I can come up with is that the virus is indeed spreading that fast, or maybe even more, but there's a colossal amount of asymptomatic and mild, but still very infective, cases.
