Basically when you enter the prison they kick the fuck out of you and give you a chance to join before they rape you (too much).
If you're lucky you'll go to a prison that has a white supremacist faction you can join instead, but the islamic factions tend to be more powerful since it's a monolithic religion and so much easier to organise under it whereas response groups are less concrete and more difficult to set up, less united if that makes sense.
