It's not a cure, it's a treatment. Chloroquine has shown that it may help resist the spread of the virus within your cells by transporting zinc at the cellular level, which seems to increase cellular resistance to virus takeover. It will not stop the virus, it will not kill the virus, but it could help slow it while your immune system retools itself to deal with it. A combination of vitamin C and chloroquine could help older patients, but the tricky part is that you need to have a built up level of zinc in your cells, meaning you would in theory need to be taking the medication prior to knowing you were infected during the 2 week incubation period at least, taking it after you're presenting symptoms might still help, but it wouldn't be nearly as effective.

Chloroquine has some side effects which are generally mild, still it's not something I'd love to take as a preventative measure, even if most of our military was pumped full of it during Vietnam.

I've had about 4 or 5 days with mild symptoms, dry cough, lung obstruction, mild shortness of breath, no fever but occasional sudden changes in temperature.I noticed that it could get worse so I decided to self-medicate, hydroxychloraquine was the most affordable treatment, I could buy it without a prescription at my trusted pharmacy, no questions asked, and other things like carbocysteine lysinate 2.7 gram sachets, acetylcysteine 600 mg , cloperastine syrup, terbasmin turbuhaler, paracetamol with codeine and vitamin c tablets with zinc.

I followed the protocol of two tablets every 12 hours the first day and one tablet every 12 hours thereafter. But I made the mistake of adding the cloperastine syrup which is a mild antihistaminic and that cause me a worrisome long qt syndrome in my heart, tachycardia, feeling light-headedand and such, at first I thought it could be an anxiety attack, but seeing the side effects I saw that the medication caused that when it was interacting badly with other things, thankfully I could calm down with respiratory exercises.

I am now on the third day and a half of treatment, now I only take 2 hydroxychlorine pills and 2 sachets of carbocysteine a day, in addition to vitamin C and I am noticing a lot of improvement, I also take infusions of turmeric, ginger, garlic and black pepper.

If you can get a population being treated in a way that reduces dependency on respirators and hospital beds, then that's a short team win which will save some lives.
