The death rate is actually smaller than that because they are only using confirmed cases. When they calculate death rate for the seasonal flu, they use estimated cases as well.

86% of coronavirus cases are asymptomatic. So the death rates you are giving are literally only actually 14% of that.

When people are hospitalised that means 1) they take up ICUs 2) they take up resources 3) they use up doctors/nurses.
There are limits to every system and this virus could easily surpass the limits of Western health care systems if it spreads too quickly. Death rate of the virus is not the concern, it's the infection rate and need for long term hospitalisation for a large percentage of the infected.

This is prob not far from the numbers for actual flu tho. If it's even real the only reason Corona is slightly dangerous is because it's basically the flu but we havent built immunity to it yet, so people who would die to the flu are gonna die to it.
