I'd like to ask if any folks are out there in the transportation sector (of any sort) and if you can offer any news or information occurring now or later on in your respected sector. This is inquiring about the supply chain of the U.S. mainly, but feel free to respond if your outside of it; I'm sure we're all eager to know more than what we know about current events happening around us.

Some in this sector are recieving "Letters of Access" in the event of the implementation of quarantine zones or containment areas.
Which part of the sector if you don't mind me asking?
>we're all eager to know more than what we know about current events happening around us.
Nothing ever happens. The body-temp IQ people who work in the transportation sector are still shuttling things around. Their management is falling all over themselves for this "crisis" so they get a fat bonus at the end.
Or, nothing is different at my job except we've got disinfectant everywhere.
Those considered vital on matters relating to critical infrastructure protection, sustained supply chains, interstate commerce....
An epic number of retarded fucks on here. And fuck you, millennial.
Do you know for how long these Letters will be good for, or have they specified a time on when they think certain areas will be under quarantine?
trucker here, this was at houston walmart idc, all that empty space should be filled to the brim with trailers, facility must have been at under 50% capacity
normally it would take me 30 mins to get through the guard gate due to a line, there was 0 line
get ready to start seeing a lot more empty shelves in a lot more stores lads
Listen here, Jack. It wasn't just the chinese building railroads across this great land, but walls too, and that's the bottom line.
>room temp IQ's
not my fault megacarriers hire niggers out of somalia to fill their cabs, I dropped out of a t1 uni after studying microbiology & immunology for years and driving a truck is way better than pipetting ad nauseum or being an office cuck
since you're driving around in a truck, and can't stock food, what are your plans?
Im in logistics for a flatbed company.
Business as usual for now, waiting on factories to close
So far it's all precautionary preperation. The access paperwork expiration date varies, some go out to the fall
I said body temp, mr. can't-read.
>Do you know
Hello journalist. Looking for some unnamed sources who wish to remain anonymous?
nah dude. I'm in the sector myself. Was just wondering how everybody else is doing so far; curious about what the supply chain looks like from other's viewpoints.
We export 50% or more of our food, not just to the states but on ships. I'm a trucker, been a truck a long time and have friends in the business of food / consumer commodity transport. A lot of us are across the 54 border at least once a day. From what I can tell you might see less of our stuff down there for a short time, but you wont be cut off completely. I know we are getting govt support and truckers are classified as an essential service right now.
Well what's it look like on your end bud?
Work at Coles DC in Perth. We are one of the biggest warehouses in the southern hemisphere.
We have plenty of stock, but not enough staff to move it. Just in time logistics was a mistake.
Also we supply fresh beef, lamb, chicken etc to all our stores. Normal day would be 16k cartons. Today is 38k. The demand outstrips our capacity to supply.
Not in transpo, but I work in supply chain.
Major retailers like Target, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, C&B, are cancelling orders faster than we can process them. Anything that wasn't already in the pipeline by the end of last week has been killed, all the way up through Christmas 2020.
If what we're seeing in our segment of the market is indicative of what's happening across the board this shutdown is probably going to be the death blow for traditional retail chains.
uh, why would they cancel orders? For food or just typical goods?
>not trucking directly to the store
Would it be helpful if I were to apply for these jobs in the future or is it just an immediately issue? I'm a neet and don't need to work atm.
That's not how it works, genius.
I'm not in transportation myself but I have a friend that works at a Walmart and talked to another person that works at Target. Both of them said the warehouses were 100% out of toilet paper and wouldn't be restocked for a minimum of two weeks due to the insane panic buying happening all over. Not even memeing to make fun of the TP hoarding. At least in my area if you don't have some shit wipe you're not going to for a few weeks.
>uh, why would they cancel orders
Op and the user are news journalists.
Fuck em and their shit.
Which state? Picking is hard Yakka but beau coup money.
natural gas and electric utilities are to continue as normal. some training may be affected, but nothing as to operations. some major projects are suspended, but maintenance and emergency response is unaffected. GOC/FERC/NERC continues unabated, even if they're currently under ICS.
Yes, I am transportation sector. 6 years ago we completed prototype for teleportation (non-living matter only). We have been using it in place of select transatlantic cargo shipments and it has already saved us millions of dollars. We will go public once the carbon footprint of the required power is a little more eco-friendly
SA. I'm envisioning a great depression and that my education will be worthless this time next year.
I have my CDL B. Best way to get my A license in TX or a good B class job I can get at the moment?
sorry I autocorrect because I read extremely quickly, I have never seen anybody say bodytemp in reference to IQ
So far as I know we're still switching cars and sending freight every which way. We've been told our jobs are essential and will play a critical part in maintaining the supply chain of the country. and is correct as well, that happened the other day.
i saw april 28 and september 30 iirc
I actually have 50 cans of spam, 30 cans of deenz, jar of pb, jar of raw unfiltered honey, bunch of crackers and bixed toast, and 30 liters of water, in my cab. If I have to be shut down somewhere for some reason I can safely stay put for a month, but for now I am getting loads and moving because I am just a regular OTR. Miles are down but I dont care at this point.
for now I can still get takeout, just had a pizza
been wearing my hazmat to go to the shitter
We're in the "typical goods" sector. Basically anything that isn't food is being cancelled or dramatically slowed. Some of it seems to be about trying to reduce expenses temporarily since they won't have money coming in for the next month+ but they're even cancelling things that would have set in early 2021 so they clearly either expect this to last longer than we think or are planning on declaring bankruptcy.
docks are empty man, all that cheap chinese shit is gone and it is not coming back for a long time, so most things on shelves wont be stocked again
Work at office for OTR trucking company in the Midwest. We ship refridgerated food products, candy vegrtables etc. Our drivers have to answer multiple questions and restrictions before delivering. A lot of cancled orders past 2 weeks. Short term its a problem but long term I think we are fine once this blows over.
any oilfield trucker?
Yeah?
F
Condensate isn't slowing down lol Trudeau called me an essential service this morning. Keep your F for the Jet Fuel haulers.
That's also correct (it's what we have as well). I was talking to a financial planner the other day and he claims (from his sources) that they have this thing marked out all the way into October before they see economic stability/recovery. I told him whoever came up with that date isn't far off from what this letter says.
i think he is referring to crude oil prices
jet fuel distribution lines are not interrupted. maybe trucking, but i don't know for sure.
Holy shit, this thread is like a window into the future, kudos OP.
Pic just plugging an essential resource that probably needs attention RN. I gave last week.
O+ fag
>"genius"
>implying the other way is working so well right now
Faggot detected
I am delivering 40000 lbs of Hawaiian Punch to a grocery warehouse in Virginia. They are crazy backed up because of the panic buying. I had to drop my initial appointment because I couldn't wait 6+ hours to unload (dot law) and next appointment was two hours ago. I'm still here still waiting... All for fucking free damnit..
Canada's got your back in the shitter friends, more will be coming.
Condensate is basically crude. The price fell through the floor but people are still buying it here. It also gets made into plastics and other things, consumer vehicle fuel is only one part (albeit a very large part) of the industry. Thing to remember, transport is an essential service and transport requires fuel. Global fuel prices are low because of large stockpiles of fuel in Saudi and Russia, not north america. Our energy sectors (like fuel) are an essential service and our socialist govt is grabbing it with both hands right now. It's going to be slow, not perfect, but more stable than say, logging or Jet Fuel. People still need to heat homes and trucks still need to drive man.
will the port of houston being shut down mean higher demand for canadian crude? i haven't looked at pipelines for a long time.
My brother is a jet truck driver in Edmonton. They're not moving much from what I've heard and with commercial flights falling off a cliff he's getting spooked. Jet fuel is basically just kerosene but it cant be used for much other than burning it or putting it in a boat. You shouldn't put it in a truck, for example. No ones flying as far as I know.
I drive a refrigerator truck, mostly doing deliveries to big box stores in smaller towns. Not much has changed for me besides putting in a some (voluntary) overtime desu. There's stress on the system but it should be fine on my end.
bro just play vidya, with shtf who cares about not making more fed notes, I just wanna keep driving and not get sick
No, americans will never use our crude. The military industrial complex has a deal with Saudi Arabia. Google Henry Kissinger and the Saudis. Unless this causes the collapse, and therefore, a drastic change in American middle east policy, then maybe you will buy our crude but I doubt it. Our output cant meet your demand anyway. Would take some major investment in infrastructure. If america starts using canadian crude, it means the collapse of Saudi Arabia and you can expect Israel to make a push eastward. So no, in short, due to diplomatic efforts by Kissinger and the so called "Petro dollar" backed by arms deals to Saudi, no you'll probably never use our oil unless something changes in a blood bath.
I work for the post office. Things are mostly normal or us so far. The only real difference is no overtime for anyone the past couple of days, which is really strange. There are usually a few who have to go over every day. This is the first time that all routes have been done in under 8 hours since I started working here.
As far as I know, only 2 terminals are shut down only to container ships. Tankers are still moving in.
Yeah I figured. American refusal of Canadian oil is a complicated political thing. It's not as simple as most people think, and if they ever made the switch it would be either the result of, or the prelude to war.
>bodytemp in reference to IQ
It's great because it's slightly below average, and that's a certain set of people who make decent lowskill employees.
Great, we'll be making boxes so long as we get roll shipments.
>clearly either expect this to last longer than we think or are planning on declaring bankruptcy.
They don't know what to expect, so cancel all orders. Same as the market traders, everyone is moving to short positions because the future predictability just shat the bed and is coofing unproductively.
Your right. This laptop was great purchase but it sucks down power too much to run off my battery. Keep telling myself I'll get a local gig so it isn't worth it to buy a Jenny (no Apu at Western Express)
Chicago RTA (public bus transit here)... We aren't ever going to shutdown for everything. Dont let them lie to you, they dont clean the busses worth SHIT at the end of the night- 100% guaranteed if you take public transit you WILL get the virus..... our ridership is down 80%, yet we still keep driving empty busses. Whatever.
i have a gaymin laptop but that is the reason I got a switch lite
I work on the UK railway.
I go out on track and repair things as normal whilst everyone who works on a computer in my industry works from home. it's like it's running as a skeleton business.
they haven't done anything to protect the frontline workers. the guys that actually do the work. just told us to wish our hands lmao.
the guys are all having bants everytime someone sneezes which is funny now but isn't gonna be in a week.
the carriage of passengers is more than certain going to be reduced but the UK railway also carries freight. so it's going to be a telling sign of what is gonna happen if we are told not to come to work
thankfully sneezing is not a symptom
