What I find amazing is the brand-recognition buying. All Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea tuna cans gone, shelf stripped bare. Walmart house brand in 4 pack of cans is still remaining, plenty to spare until I bought it all.

Just went to Walmart today and got about $100 worth of food but only paid $50 since I used the self check out and didn't pay for the expensive items.

Still have $250 in food stamps that I need to use while there's still food to buy.

My local mega-grocery store was full, there were a few items out that people hoard, such as pork and beans, but for the most part the store was having no trouble keeping up.

I work in the dairy industry, we've already stopped producing all milk except for semi-skimmed and whole, just the basic every day stuff now, and double the amount being delivered and still producing even more to meet demand, shits getting bad boys

My housemate is paranoid as fuck about this and he bought so much food I have nowhere to put mine that I'm gonna get tomorrow. The entire fridge and pantry is overflowing.

I've noticed this, the ethnic aisle for example have canned corned beef, sardines, Vienna fingers, dried beans, lentils, all dirt cheap. I buy that stuff on the regular anyways.

Also, convenience stores still have bread, water, canned food, as do dollar type stores. I'm totally comfy, and if I have to bug out instead of bugging in, I'm ready for that too.

You do realize that the supply chain for non-perishable goods are managed weeks, if not months out. One week of frantic buying doesn't put a dent in the global supply, there are millions of cans of tuna, peanut butter etc. sitting in warehouses.

What you're seeing is a temporary contraction due to a demand spike. Delivery and shipping capacity can't match it now, but it will catch up. And they are ramping up production to meet the increased demand.

If panic buying continues, grocery stores and/or the government will ration to keep order. Not ideal, but not unprecedented either. Happened during WWI and WWII.

Lastly, the fresh food supply chain will be unaffected since people can't really stockpile it.
