We should talk more about the times in history where societies have actually collapsed, it has arguably happened a few times in US history but not at the level we really want. The classic example is, of course, Rome. I think this fits in pretty well with how Rome collapsed, deep seeded problems and tensions being held up by a flimsy system that was one national disaster away from splintering apart. Yugoslavia seems to have fallen in a similar fashion as well.
