Why get a semi 410 with slugs when you could just get something in a pistol calibur if you are scared of recoil. A rifle in 9mm like the ruger pcc will do you a whole hell of a lot better. Even rifles in 223 don't actually kick that hard and you should be fine.

If buying a shockwave you need a brace. Look it up. It's about $165 on Brownells. Also with it's short, unchoked barrel it's super short range. It's more of a fun toy. If you want a shotgun buy a 18-20" Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88

Get the Mossberg 930 instead, if you really want a shorter version get the Mossberg 930spx. The spx is going to be my next piece. It's semi automatic, not only does it shoot faster, but the same mechanism responsible for allowing this firearm to shoot quickly is also used to dampened the recoil. So it's easy to shoot MORE shells out of this thing compared to a pump action. Brand new they are $600, however they are some on an online gun auction RIGHT NOW for $450

2. Research guns online and decide on what you want, then find a good price (gun.deals/ is your friend here).

3. Pay for the gun and select your FFL if they have it on file or have your FFL send them a copy of their paperwork.

4. They'll ship the gun to your FFL, they call you when it's in

5. Show up to FFL and fill out your form 4473 (federal background check) and walk out with new gun assuming it comes back clean.

6. ???

6. Profit. Enjoy your new gun

The 590A1 fulfilled the mil spec for a reason. You can get a pistol grip if you must, or a combined stock/pistol grip. But it is a sturdy piece of machinery. I put over a thousand shells through mine and never had a jam or a misfire. Pumping it is fun and racking it is loud and like something on TV or in a movie. It's enough to scare the shit out of any home invader.
