I was operating under the assumption that double actions purpose was to load the round for you. Considering all of my firearm experience is with either bolt action rifles or double action revolvers can you blame me.

It matters because a double-action trigger performs the two functions of cocking and then releasing the hammer or striker..Glock is essentially a double action pistol. The striker being partially retracted or the innability to perform a second strike with out first retracting the slide isn't pertinent to the defining function of the triggers action

It's not double action. Glocks use a striker.
When you pull back the slide you chamber a round and charge the striker.
A semi auto pistol has a magazine, and when you rack the slide you cause one round to come out of the mag and up into the chamber. So at that point ejecting the mag leaves you with one round in the gun, ready to go.
