How, exactly? I don't think you comprehend the extent to which the CCP controls literally all media, and that was BEFORE they imposed extra measures and threatened anyone caught leaking anything to the outside world with imprisonment and death.
Remember those "hospitals" they miraculously built across the country in a few days? Leaked pics from inside showed they weren't hospitals at all, but a place to stash the infected out of sight while they died, then burning the remains en masse. The sulfur clouds (characteristic of modern crematories) were so enormous they could be seen from space. Now, just a few weeks after being built, these "hospitals" are being decommissioned, and the sulfur clouds are gone.

Exactly, and once the construction was over the feeds stopped. There were no photos of the inside of the hospital aside from the ones leaked, showing there was no medical equipment, no oxygen system, no nothing: just beds for people to die in, and bars on the windows to keep people from escaping.
Also, the feeds stopped once construction was over back in late-January.

I'm not refuting that they are. I think you're missing the point I'm making. Pic related, but I'll still explain.
Basically Chna can afford to lose millions, or even tens of millions of people over the course of a few months without making a dent in their working population. Huge amounts of their population are basically fake employed anyway, as demand for Chinese products have dropped but the CCP can't have companies reducing production/laying people off. The point of China downplaying the numbers wasn't for their benefit, it was to keep the rest of the world in the dark while they spread the virus across the globe for months. Then they locked everything down, let their own infected die, and are reopening for business just as the rest of the world is collapsing.
