Called my grandparents who live in rural china last week. Basically they had a rigid quarantine for 3-4 weeks from lunar new year, a literal "you go outside you get shot". Trucks deliver supply to residents for purchase, all schools and colleges still closed, 90% of businesses still closed other than essential ones. In recent weeks restrictions have lessened, people can go out if wearing masks, in groups of less than two. But yea, the containment measures were drastic for a while since people (esp. older) were not taking the virus seriously at first.
