At least 12 to 24 months. It had to be tested very thoroughly. Rushing out a vaccine could create a worse situation than now. Inoculating everybody with a poor vaccine can increase vulnerability to infection. People have to accept that 80% of the world will contract this virus over the next year. All you can do is slow the infection rate so healthcare systems can cope. In China their infection rate is low now, but as soon as people start returing to more normal life the infection will increase again, the virus is still present and will remain so.

Another thing that can be done to lighten loads involves advances in treatments to prevent the worst cases. That’s not a vaccine, but something that could work.
