I had to convince my boomer parents to only make essential trips to leave the house. My mom is in her 60s; dad is 71. My mom is going out grocery shopping tomorrow, as if she will find anything, because Monday grocery shopping is her routine and "essential." They need groceries, but they also need to stay their asses at home.
I bought them $350 of canned goods and pasta about 3 weeks ago. I thought they had a freezer full of meat because they always do, but they didn't, and they didn't prep. They told me they were trying to use all the meat before buying more. They done goofed.
Aside from rice, potatoes, condiments, and that shit that stays in the pantry for years because no one wants to eat it, basically all they have is what I dropped off weeks ago. My mom went shopping on Friday but told me all she could find was milk, chicken, and diet fucking coke. I imagine the store had 158 times more shit than that, but that was all they had that was on her fucking shopping list.
When I dropped off the non-perishables, my mom looked at me like I was insane; my dad acquiesced. Now they get it, and aren't going out 4 times every day for bullshit, but they still think their routine trips are "necessary," like going to library on Wednesday to get DVDs because the library is the new Blockbuster for boomers and poor people. "But I have to return the DVDs I have." She goes every Wednesday, so she thinks it is "essential." I don't know what the fuck to do.

If the government wants to, they can either kill someone in their homes or cause them to experience Corona symptoms. These people will then leave their home and surrender for medical treatment. With schools closed(and therefore poor kids without a source of meals), limited travel, and limited supplies, NYC is ripe for a large upheaval to order. This will be the place to keep an eye on. Are people under the impression think they can just wait it out for a few months, and then resume their life like normal having avoided it? It's not going away.
