If it's for general pre-covid infections, then it's this. Most people who let standard illnesses get so bad that they require hospitalization had some form of mental illness to begin with. If you have a cut and you don't take care of it to the point where you get hospitalized for sepsis, it means you're living in filth, are so mentally ill that you can't effectively take care of yourself, or are a drug addict who doesn't care about your body. Most sane, healthy, non-addicts don't get hospitalized for an infection. Also, a lot of people who survive bacterial infections that leave them hospitalized lose limbs, which is probably correlated as well.
If it's for the wu-flu, then it's probably because most people who were hospitalized spread it to friends and family members who had it even worse. I'd kill myself too if I unknowingly infected my mother and it led to her death.
