Same issue as when Russia has been attacked before, the country is so vast you need huge level of resources to take over and keep hold of such a huge country. Japan hasn't got it, certainly not now. The last time Japan had the opportunity, China was an utter shit hole and it still didn't work out although fighting on other fronts didn't help.
Point is, only America or perhaps Russia and Europe combined could have the resources to invade and keep hold of China. It would cost trillions though and what's the point...China is a total shit hole that has 1.5 billion suicidal ants and fuck all resources.

Their population of 1.3 billion can easily be destroyed by a blight on the rice crop or a simple oil blockade through the Straits of Malaca. China, despite its economic power is vulnerable to a simple siege/blockade. They have no blue water navy to stop this.

The point of nuking Japan was to get Japan and their military on the US's side to hold off against communism in Asia before the Soviets got to them first.
