Recent events have and are happening which are changing the way we see the world. In the past, it was easy for us to leave our destiny into the hands of our leaders, or take a lazy approach to social concerns. Today, we understood that we can shape our destiny. The corona virus has shown us how, when people realize that they can take matters into their own hands, they are most effective. When our governments were slow to respond to the spread, many of us were already beginning a self-imposed quarantine, and some were stocking up supplies. Because our lives were in dangers, we started seeking reliable sources of information in order to make the best decisions, rather than relying on the information we hear from media machines which drive their revenue from fear and misinformation. The recent events have helped empower us as individuals in fights against a threat by taking simple measures of protection, as a herd. Simple measures like greater hygiene (cleaning hands, watching where our hands go, care when sneezing), temporarily reducing contact with others, and general responsible behavior when known to be infected go a long ways to hinder the spread. Our increased communication amongst ourselves (also thanks to technology) helped us to gain clarity.
While today our species is threatened by a virus, a more long-term threat looms in front of us: the destruction of our planet by our own hands. While the corona virus woke us from our sleep, and alarmed us to take action and protect our lives, our ability as a body to fight threats to our existence has also awoken. Every day we go to the market, we purchase goods wrapped in non bio-degradable material. As we raise more and more forests to exploit our lands or populate them, our ecosystems are dying. The oceans have birthed islands of trash, and highly populous cities are covered in smog.
