I live in the city too, near the city center, and am getting worried. I want to buy a gun but have never owned one (have fired them, but never owned one). But it seems like no gun stores are open on Sunday. I have supplies but without a means to defend them aside from knives and machetes seems like a bad idea.

I live in a remote aboriginal community (similar to an isolated native reservation in US or Canada). Recently, the phones were down for 3 days which meant that no transactions could go through at the grocery shop.
That meant that the grocery shop was closed and there were no other locations to purchase food (no cafe, restaurant, take-away, anything, it's a very small town).
On the first day, all was normal. Second day, slight tension and discontent. Third day, very tense, the hours before phones were re-connected there were outbursts of violence and the beginning phases of rioting.

None of this made it to the news, of course, so I can't link anything and if I had tried to photograph or video the commotion I would have been speared, so you'll have to take my anecdote at face value.
