Stop buying shitty prep knives #2

Due to explosive popularity continued from: I stand by my budget recommendation for a bushcraft/survival knife as in the original thread OP. Yes it will suck at slicing your sushi, it is not a kitchen knife. No need to comment if you do not know wtf you are talking about when it comes to knives. Pic related is a BK&T Crewman.

Just get a machete

Good cheapo EDC option, Lanksy Madrock world legal, legal everywhere.

Attached: lansky.jpg (1280x720, 99.44K)

And what do I do when I need to do something the machete can't do?

cool

>
you will develop your own way of sharpening as you practice. that will be the best way for you.
good sharpeners (ppl who do it for money, i have on occasion) all seem to have their own "style" if you will.

if your blades fuckin sharp, its fuckin sharp. doesn't matter how it got that way.
IMO

Attached: asdasdasd.jpg (4032x3024, 2.95M)

That was my understanding too, there are as many different ways to sharpen a blade as there are people to do it.

Anyone have any experience with the BK&T survival 9?

these are sweet

Attached: kabars.jpg (1599x817, 112.67K)

Attached: DSCF7708.jpg (3072x2304, 1.39M)

I concur, best all rounder for a blade tool is a machete

Forgot the pic, BK&T survival 9

Attached: survival9.jpg (800x966, 68.35K)

I ordered a karambit from aliexpress, lets go boys.

>mom found the shit knife

3 USMC KA-BAR's, good shout, no complaints with that selection. I'm presuming you have something else for heavy work? like a machete maybe, some kind of chopper.

that was a joke from the last thread. OP was saying it was a good knife.

honestly for the price, it is, if its your style i mean. it is cheap af.

What do you do when you need to do something that can't be done with a machete due to it's obscene size?

not anymore, theyre not even full tang these days

It doesn't matter if you're a 200-IQ Rennaissance Man of Prepping, can make water from a tarp over a hole, synthesize your own vegetables in your underground lab bunker like Will Smith in that movie, have a secret stash of automatic weapons and rocket launchers, can pick locks, hijack every aircraft and hotwire every car, you were in the secret Navy SEAL unit within the Navy SEAL unit within that secret unit.

If you don't have friends you will die when SHTF. 5 normies with low-level cunning will beat a Master-Prepper 99% of the time. Safety in numbers is the number one asset in Survivalism but preppers tend to be lonely.

I'm not one to point fingers either as a loner. What friends I could get in touch with from Uni with aren't tough enough to survive on a baseline normie level.

I want folding knife, am I complete faggot?

I see you like Kershaw's, do not think I've ever had one of theirs.

good preparing food with that knife, much less skinning or gutting. there's a reason most knives aren't shaped that way.

yes but not because of the knife

The Virgin "Survival Knife" vs The Chad Machete

Yes, the snide comments from many people, are due to the fact that they think good = excellent. Whereas in my opinion good = does the job well enough.

well your Russian, so yes. but folding knives are cool.

i got a bunch of em when i was poor like 15 years ago. love em. use em for work over the years (the volt SS is 15 years old) and they hold up like the expensive ones. good steel options too.
good price, kershaw is one of the best knife companies IMO cause they dont charge you 300 fucking bucks for good steal.

well in a knife thread everyone is a snob. at least thats how /k/ does it.

It's not for food prep. once again, blade shapes are designed for different purposes.

I too am a fan of big black knives

your survival knife should be a good multi-tasker

Just ordered this one

nice ZT.

for survival id rather have something fat for chop chop and somthing skinny with a belly for skinning

I like schrade, I have their SCHF45 bowie knife, and it is the best camp knife I have.

Was late to the last thread, but still around for this one.
Look for alternate sources for good steel--don't just assume you have to drop a fortune, or suffer with crap.
Pic related--best all rounder I have, and I grabbed it off Craigslist a few years ago for $60.

I still want a Busse SARge 7, with the green micarta handles, but damned if I'm willing to spend $800 on a knife that was originally sold for $450 a few years back--that I couldn't justify spending $450 on back then.

There are plenty of good blades out there that don't break the bank.
Get a decent one, and occasionally look around for the one you really want at a price you can afford.

Attached: FoxRiver2.jpg (1200x675, 62.84K)

Coincidentally I bought a Ka-Bar folding pocket knife yesterday. Figured it'd be good to have on my person on a day to day basis as I go out in these upcoming days. Wanted a bigger knife for home defense. Are Bowie knives good for home defense? Machetes? Gimme some recs, fellas, but keep it on the cheaper side if possible

Pic related is my survival knife. Will chop off heads, clear the way through scrub, cut firewood, and open cans of food. And yes I found it, hence the exquisite patina.

>for survival id rather have something fat for chop chop and somthing skinny with a belly for skinning

you don't pack very light, do you?

True.

>5 normies with low-level cunning will beat a Master-Prepper 99% of the time.

Oh, you sweet summer child. Keep telling yourself that, while you and your four buddies die on a hot summer day, late 2020, long after the shit hit the fan. When the state finally self-destructed, and it was every man and woman and child for themselves.

im the redneck wearing a fixed blade on my belt with a folder in my pocket. no packing required.

"EDC" I said, EDC, every-day-carry, it's for opening boxes etc dude, read more carefully in future.

Cold steel gladius.

Thanks, highly recommend ZT and Kershaw, love mine.

Checked and appreciate the recommendation

i love mine too

I like my high carbon Morakniv and Opinel knives.

Attached: Morakniv-Companion-Heavy-Du.jpg (700x705, 39.35K)

I got about 20ft of 1080 and 1095. I'm quenching in 8yo peanut oil that I got for whatever nothingburger that was hot at the time. My tungston carbide plating stuff just came in today, so that should help with edge retention. I have a left and right kiradashi that are almost ready for handles. When I get a pruning knife made, I want to see if I can copper/silver plate it to make it self-antiseptic (for added assurance, not for cleaning toenails and then cutting apples or some dumbness).
>pic related is the type of knife and ideas, but is a more skilled version of what I am currently working on
Some of the metal pieces I got are thicker. On Amazon, you can get countless throwing knives for playing darts with kives, and they're cheap, but I'd like to make some from the hardenable steels I ordered for practice. The bonus is getting knife-darts game, because monopoly, most card games, chess, other board/dice games, don't work in solo mode and don't relieve stress and boredom the same way as going outside and calmly throwing stuff does.
I also got a wide piece of steel so that I can try to make a utility tomahawk and efficiently design a useful hatchet-sized one out of a piece of metal that's not immediately big enough to 'cookie cutter' a one piece design.

nigger hand detected

glock should stick to making guns. at least you can match while you larp.

nice "patina" m8

did you make those user?

they look beautiful

I bought a smith and Wesson . Did the Jews that own BoA get a good deal? I’ll probably be dead by the time it gets here tbqhwyfampai

Need a machete, axe, skinner, knife. Thats for blades.

>pic related is the type of knife and ideas, but is a more skilled version of what I am currently working on
Can you not read?

Katana or nothing your shit wont do anything .

I have a few.

Expensive knives are as stupid as expensive ink pens.
>but muh Mont Blanc
You retards will be pretentious about anything if it makes you feel superior.

It's a really old photo though. I have a few more than that now.

Whats the point of having so many? Materialism? Impulsive spending? Its like women with their shoes.

your post is TL,DR

try spacing so your shit can be read easily. like this.

inb4 newfags call it reddit spacing

nice collection bro

get a real knife, pussies

Attached: 65773456436734.jpg (1280x720, 179.82K)

I collect all the up and coming steels. The technology that goes into new steel is really cool.

Those are some very cool blade designs, good work user, keep it up.

IT'S TAPE

some good ones there. nice collection.

>stop liking thing i don't like !!!
collections are super common. not just knives but anything really.

>like women and shoes
yeah, pretty much. some ppl collect cars, guns, stamps, ties, TP, whatever man.

you don't like nice things?

Attached: 20200314_215040.jpg (3024x4032, 611.55K)

the bigger one reminds my of a kershaw blur but longer.

What do you mean

Attached: 04e.png (680x435, 130.64K)

Ah I missed that second half of the sentence too, never mind.

Bought a $70 Spyderco Endura 5 years ago for my first "high end" (eg, not a walmart buck knife) knife. Carried it every day since then (every day even to my homies funeral) and it's never let me down, I feel vulnerable without it. It's my only knife and I love it. If I needed a fixed blade I would just use a machete, duh. A folder does basically everything you need aside from chopping a tree down which you need a machete or axe for anyways. Get a fuckin folder

Larp somewhere else, the adults are trying to have a technical discussion.

If you don't know about Spyderco yet you need to educate yourself quickly.

Fair enough. More interesting than my collection (beetles) anyway.

Attached: 20200313_103811.jpg (1200x900, 856.62K)

spiderco look like gas station tier designs IMO.

some cool models however, and good steel options in some too.

definitely some similarities with the "grip-tape" in the handle. Highly recommend the soccom elite from microtech if you want a beefy knife to beat up on

There's a reason professionals buy quality tools, there's a good reason to own quality tools if you are going to own tools at all. If your the kind of fag that just buys the cheapest shit he can get away with, then you are not a very forward thinking organism.

:^)

buy once cry once.

??? You are the kid trying to defend yourself with potato knife .
Like i said sword / katana or nothing .

Well if you are going to approach it from that angle you might as well just say "whats the point in collecting anything" to which the answer is "I like them".

I have the spyderco triangle sharpener kit. It doesn't seem to do as good as a job as my diamond sharpener like pic related.

Attached: flipstik_field.png (360x254, 42.05K)

>Oh, you sweet summer child.

Attached: 864286429642649.png (1500x1000, 442.06K)

You need to get a grip on reality. They're high end consistency for value. As pricey as they are...

that sharp maker is really hard to get used to. i only use it to touch up serrations at this point

the shit knife looks ok

To each their own. Do you have an order, family or genus of beetle that you find to be the most interesting?

Please keep spewing retarded nonsense, you are amusing every single person in here that has any sense at all.

you're not welcome here friendo

Please keep spewing retarded nonsense, it is amusing every single person in here with any sense.

>I still want a Busse SARge 7
Check bladeforums every day
"deals" (at least as far as busse is concerned) do come up
Just did a quick search, sarge7 sold for 400 in sept 2019 there

Not just any katana will do.

Attached: 20120116_020542 - Copy.jpg (3264x1104, 2.53M)

It's impossible to reason with cheap people, almost draining at times. They will never understand quality in their lifetime.

Explain to me instead of saying bs .
How would you survive with your potato knife ? Does it make you feel safe ? Your shit is better than katana ?

>spyderco triangle sharpener kit.
that and your pic is meem gear man.

some links are old. just google the product.

I like the native New Zealand weevils (Order: Curculionidae) and ive been making a few wiki articles about them because no one else gives a shit about them. There is one with the shape of a dick and balls on its elytra.

>that sharp maker is really hard to get used to
Which goes completely against what they claim, which is that the sharpmaker is extremely easy to use. And it is easy to use... but it does not give me good results quickly. Maybe i am just using it wrong.

Had a shitty folding knife fold on my pinky when i tried to humanely kill a catfish by stabbing it in the head. They have rock hard skulls my God

Thats what i call good shit to defend yourself not like this kike op

You need a gun to defend yourself, anything less is a risk and bad for your health.

This isn't my go to, but Its a looker

Attached: 20180415_103013.jpg (3264x2448, 3.04M)

>humanely kill a catfis
stabbing its head wont kill it. fish brains are tiny and youll miss. cut the head off.

cut deep its spine at the neck itll be dead then.

I like the pic related little diamond sharpener because it is small and easy to bring with me when I go out hunting. I need to try and bring as light of gear as possible when i go into the bush because it is steep and my knees are weak. Thanks for the recommendations though, i need a proper knife sharpening kit for home use.

it sucks fat cocks.
this user knows what he's talking about. or you could buy the edge pro apex and be a lazy cunt about it

If I need to explain to you why the knife is the most important invention ever made by human hands, that it was a critical survival tool for over 2 million years and remains so to this day. If you are so unaware that I am required to explain these things to you, you are clearly too utterly retarded to understand the concepts required to understand anything I just explained to you.

>knives

I’ve got those but I also got golf clubs which is better for self defense?

Attached: D389812B-8BCF-41A3-8B13-E9CA28799B4D.jpg (3013x3500, 1.36M)

A few more. Mostly kitchen/work knives

Attached: 20161218_135616.jpg (2560x1536, 1.13M)

baseball bats > golf clubs

for portable kit there is nothing wrong with meem sharpeners, carry on then

weaponized baseball bats > baseball bats

Im leaf + .... i dont think i can get weapon licence right now for some reason . I know guns are the Best to defend yourself its not even question

Who doesn't? But if we are talking about prepping, efficiency matters. Fewer tools, lower cost, conserve budget for more important things like ammo and food.

A knife is the wrong tool for most of what you will be doing in the woods anyway and more likely to end up cutting you - which is what it is designed to do - cut meat. A cut can be deadly without modern medicine readily available. Get a fucking hatchet. I bet none of you knife nerds knows how to field dress an animal for meat anyway.

It's all about having the right tool for the job.

Why don't you have one already?
