I'm in Nassau. Just read there's a confirmed case (NBC news, I think) a kid in a school on Staten Island. Also, attached tweet here showing a person presenting symptoms of COVID-19 tried to get tested on Long Island and they refused on this technicality, which is absolute bullshit since community spread is ALREADY happening in the US. She doesn't say which hospital refused to treat, but since she said Long Island & tagged in the NYC Mayor's office and elsewhere she said it's a hospital in the Northwell Health system, I think it's LIJ Hospital.
If they don't start implementing Italy-style quarantining, the shit is gonna hit the fan. I just looked up the hospital that serves the 60,000 people in the 5 towns near me has 27 emergency room beds and 2 - yes 2 - isolation rooms. They don't have anywhere near the surge capacity needed for a pandemic. If you're not already taking measures for PPE and social distancing, you're insane.
I never put any stock in Yas Forums predictions, but I'm honestly kinda shocked that finance guy predicted the markets tanking IN MARCH & the first lockdown happening in Italy. The first 2 cases in Italy were announced LITERALLY the day after he posted that, and they declared a state of emergency!
The curious thing was the mention of when it hits Brazil, then we're super fucked. They announced yesterday (March 12) that Bolsonaro's press secretary or whatever had met with Trump the other day and just tested positive. I bet my life either Trump or Pence is positive, and they either can't test them or they won't announce it because it'll send the markets into freefall.
What has me worried is the database published by Johns Hopkins has been updating every hour since this started, but just yesterday it only updated twice, kept saying the data sources were unavailable, and as of right now (5:45 am, 3/13/2020) it hasn't updated for 5 hours. I think they're slow-rolling the numbers
