So I was able to snag a 7182 3M respirator half-mask today for retail price and some 2091 filters. I also bought a pair of industrial goggles. My question is, when and where the fuck am I supposed to wear this shit? Now? Is it not bad enough now? I work retail, so I'm probably fucked anyway, but I wanted to get one just because. Help me out here and give me advice.

Look up if they're P3 or P100. That's all that matters. This is provided by a special paper filter, not by activated carbon.

None of these do anything against viruses. As far as I can tell they are all gas/vapour filters only. A layer of carbon with no particle filter. Don't use them.
Instead, get 6035 or 6038. They are large-capacity particulate filters, in a protective shell. Easy to clean on the outside. 6038 has a little bit of carbon too, but both are P3/P100 rated.

Since you only have 1 I would reserve it for when things get as bad as they are now in Italy, that is when health system is saturated (no enough ICUs) and lockdown is put into place.

N 95 mask filler particles up to .4 or .3 microns. The Corona virus is 125 nano meters which is .125 microns so the mask are useless

Any physical barrier is effective against viruses, even a bandana over your face or a surgical mask not designed for the purpose.
Something designed for the purpose like a N95/etc is obviously most effective, but any physical barrier has an impact as it will stop particles and aerosols of smaller sizes. Most viruses are going to be carried on droplets of water/oil/fluid and will be trapped by barriers much larger than the virus itself.

The extra filters can be fashioned into masks for your parents with cotton and a sewing machine too (You dont need something this hard core to assist with protection) It should be used in case of emergencies.. Stay inside and avoid people. IF you must go outside and into crowds once this pandemic is widespread in your area (likely within next 1-3 weeks) Then wear this to protect yourself for that instant.
