Remington makes a great hunter/cruiser combo for under $400. grab one of those, 2000 rounds of assorted shots and maybe a nice piece of glass if you can afford it. I would suggest getting a 10/22 and a bunch of extra extendos if you have absolutely no training or sense with any sort of projectile arms (like not even a bb gun), as they allow you to spray and pray with little recoil. But if you have any sense at all just get an AR or an AK and take it to the range at least one time and then disassemble and clean it so you know how it works (the first time can be a bitch). If you want a handgun you can't go wrong with a revolver, you basically don't even need to clean them.
