There is no reason for the Police to be Unionized, they are funded with taxpayer money, the dubious citations they issue and confiscated property. Unions are in place to protect workers from wage slave labor from for profit organizations. The Police isn't/ shouldn't be a for profit organization. Every able bodied man, say, from the age of 17 or 18 and up is military trained and has his own personal, government issued firearm, based on what his role is in his community unit. Each community would have a group of these men who, if need be, could be called into action to perform comunity protection, security, etc. For instance, if a child goes missing, these men can be called out on a moments notice to go looking for the child. If someone's home is broken into, these men can be activated to secure the property, help victims and also seal off the area and hunt for the perpetrators. We don't need police. I work in EMS and get to talk to a handful of our deputies and city cops. Their biggest complaint, even in my pretty conservative state, is not being able to actually arrest people for crimes. Like even in legit domestic abuse situations involving confirmed dirtbags (or even psycho women slinging broken glass at their boyfriends), if they didnt personally witness the event they cant make an arrest...just issue a citation and get them a court date.

And then when they do make good arrests, the judges are just letting people back out. Even drug dealers.

I cant speak for other areas' police forces but I can tell you these are 99% genuinely good people trying to do the right thing for their communities and help people, and they get very discouraged about not being able to do that as a result of the actions of lawmakers.

More internal accountability. There needs to be civilian employees that accompany cops on the road and at calls. Some of the shit that goes on is ridiculous. I work at a small department and after 20 years (with 8 or 9 really decent officers) we hired one sgt from the outside who's allowed to do whatever the fuck he feels like. The brass just covers every wrong at their own peril for 3 solid years now. I've done everything I can to expose and undermine him and I'm the one written up.

Also there needs to be a dog temperament test otherwise they don't get to carry a gun. If you are scared of dogs you need to find another job
