That's the problem. All we have right now are analysis from psychonauts who have personally experienced it. Science understands very little about the brain and even less about whats actually happening during psychedelic experiences.
I've done heavy mushrooms before with no external stimuli, which channels the experience inward. What transpired during these trips is sort of explainable, but large parts of it cannot be put into words.
One thing is consistent with Mushrooms though, is that it is true it erodes and temporarily suppresses the ego. Your ego tries to defend itself while this is happening and it fools you into thinking you're dying. It's a very strange but also refreshing thing to be in a state of egolessness. You are very vulnerable. It is at this moment you can have an honest conversation with yourself.
Some people claim to hear voices on high mushroom doses and claim its an entity/god/alien, but I've never heard any voices. My trips are always in my own mind figuring my own problems out etc.
