Let me take Italy for an example. 631 people have died. while 1004 people have recovered. Thats the death/survival numbers.
Those who are active cases have neither died or recovered, so we cant base the deathrate on that.
But if we do base it on those recovered, compared to dead, we get a sigfnificantly higher number.

You can tell from her thread that only 20 percent of infected are below 50. Which means they are missing most cases in that age groups because well over 60 percent is in that age group. Known cases are just a small percentage; they don’t look for the mild cases because they only want to treat the severe, but you can’t really do that as long as there is no quarantine. Because if you give up on trying to find asymptotic or low symptomatic people it will spread like a wildfire.

You can only imagine the under reporting and under testing going on right now in the USA. People don't have the money to get tested in the first place, can't afford to miss work.
