apple laptops are generally very well-built and have a long life span. they also have good resale value even after 3-4 years.

the build quality has declined recently and the Mac OS software has gone to gay shit under Cook, but apple laptops are still top-tier. unless you are an absolute poorfag they're not even expensive.

I have an AMD laptop because I can read, but I'm not about to front on Apple hardware and neither should you.

Fags with no discernment just do it for status signaling but that does not change the fact that the product is relatively good.

My father bought me an $1,800 laptop when I was in high school that couldn't even run WoW on medium settings. I returned it promptly.

I'm all for challenging a monopoly and I have every instinct to vote for the underdog, but Apple laptops are for queers. A real man would never be caught with one, nor a Starbucks cup in his hand.

I think it depends on what model you buy. The Pro model might be while the Air might not. I’m not sure though.

I think MacBooks have definitely got worse in the last few years. Things like RAM and drives used to be replaceable. Not anymore. Although this is standard on Windows ultrabooks these days too, so it's not much different from the competition.

Anyone being honest who evaluates the hardware on a $1200 mac versus pc's in that range has no choice but to admit that Apple's build quality is superior.

Build quality is superficially true. The right form factor means that in several models the thermals are utter shit, which has serious ramifications for the longevity of the components. Good luck replacing your failed $30 component by the way, since apparently somewhere along the line it was decided that nobody is allowed to repair apple shit without forking over $800 to the genius bar.

We get these at work, mainly because they were the top-shit 10 years ago when our top-managers first lobbied to switch to them. They have declined in quality but are still reasonably well built and do the job, so there's really no reason to switch to windows. Plus top managers like the wealth-social-signal they put out by owning these.

Apple is for fags, and Microsoft is for people who use a computer... I mean common sense.

Apple has always installed very lame video cards for the cost of the laptop, because they usually cater to “professionals” (aka journalists and faggy photographers).
Nowadays Apple laptops suck because they’re totally inaccessible for an advanced user.
The T2 Chip makes ssd (which is soldered) impossible to replace in the event of failure, RAM is non expandable too and soldered. Battery is very hard to replace and heat management was very bad on recent models.
Not worth the money to be honest, unless you have the strict necessity of a very good calibration on display.

Productivity, build quality and a POSIX compliant os. In my edgy days I wasted hours upon hours trying all different Linux flavours. Now that I've grown up I appreciate the reliability and stability of Macos.

Yeah Macs do have some good hardware, I'm typing on my MacBook right now, but they're definitely not perfect

Mine's an early 2015 13" model, here's the pros and cons.

Pros:
>Really nice, high resolution display (2560x1600 - 16:10 which I think is a better ratio than 16:9)
>Thin, strong, rigid chassis - no cheap chassis flex
>Excellent trackpad (and trackpad drivers), Windows manufacturers still aren't as good
>Perfectly decent keyboard (this was before the butterfly shit)
>Pretty good port selection, inc. full size HDMI (this was before they took all that away and replcaed it with USB C)
Cons:
>Storage is a proprietary SSD - AFAIK there's only one third-party company that makes replacements, called OWC, and they're expensive
>No ethernet port built in
>RAM is not replaceable
>Killing 32-bit support in MacOS (yes that's software but it's still relevant), meaning great MacOS ports like Halo and GTA Vice City don't work on the latest version of MacOS

In many ways my one is better than more recent MacBooks:

Windows sends back telemetry that you can't turn off right? Or at least that you have to hack around to turn off. With MacOS I'm pretty sure that's not true - it only sends crash reports if you click "okay" on the crash report.

Status symbol and Zero knowledge of actual technology, i used to haul my t440p, came handy cause these shits don't have a VGA port.

Had enough of the shit windows brings to the table. The straw was when the Ethernet started fucking up so I went back to Linux a couple of days ago. Everything runs like fucking butter and so does the games.

All the tools I use can run now too or work in wine (or proton).
It's also nice to have the very latest of everything.

Linux will honestly never breach the 5% market share. And honestly that's fine in a way. Means the hackers target windows primarily while I can mostly sit here and drink some quality ass beer and never have to worry much. It also gives me the experience needed to run a proper ass server if I wish to do so one day.
