the first is that it's long held an association with criminal elements and secret societies as a way to mark/initiate that can't be taken back, so holds a massive cultural connotation in a lot of places of being low class and undesirable
secondly, the number of pre-modern cultures that used tattoos for religious and tribal purposes (and I'm not just talking about darkies here, look at the picts/celts/scandinavians for example) but this being frowned upon by post-tribal imperialistic powers like the Roman Empire and Christendom (which want no visible divisions in their underlings) leads to it being a literal degeneration of culture

In the past tattoos signaled status (whether high or low) or experiences/identity (being a sailor or soldier or outlaw or something that involved uncommon effort/difficulty). They were always kind of stupid but there was a reason for them.
Now tattoos are a self-inflicted brand worn by extremely uninteresting people who are so devoid of identity and self-actualization that the only thing that can do is think about turning themselves into some kind of freakshow putting any random image in their head onto their body. It's basically an outward showing of mental degeneration, and it's permanent.

I got two tattoos about 17 years ago. I'm still extremely happy with them. Very well done. They don't go below my elbow so if I want to cover them up during a more formal or professional setting I can.
I try not to be too judgemental but that being said - I've seen far more terrible tattoos than I have good ones. Imagine a woman is taking your pants off for the first time and sees pic related.

I've seen a guy with a sleeve tattoo that made it look like he had giant bloody gashes on his arm with a Terminator skeleton showing through. It was kind of neat but it's also the sort of thing that is only neat once, and not enough to justify having it tattooed on your whole arm.
