>BRUSSELS, March 9. /TASS/. Turkey has requested additional assistance from NATO to protect its border with Syria and address migration challenges, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. "At today’s talks we discussed mainly the situation in Syria. I stressed the importance of immediate additional assistance from NATO and the alliance’s member states. Turkey’s border with Syria is NATO’s southeastern border. The crisis in Syria is a threat to our region and entire Europe both in the sphere of security and in the humanitarian sphere. Not a single European country can afford staying indifferent to the tragedy in Syria," he said.

>Taha Hussein asserts that the "fabrication" of ibn Saba' was done by the enemies of the Shī‘a; that the insertion of a "Jewish element" would discredit the Shī‘a. He noted that the absence of any record of ibn Saba' being present at the Battle of Siffin suggests that ibn Saba' is a fictitious person.

>Most modern Sunni writers affirm the existence of Ibn Saba'... with the exception of Taha Hussein

>Taha Hussein and Ali al-Wardi maintain that Ibn Saba' was the creation of Umayyad propaganda

In 1950, Taha Hussein was appointed Minister of Knowledge (Ministry of Education nowadays) in which capacity he led a call for free education and the right of everyone to be educated. Additionally, he was an advocate against the confinement of education to the rich people only. In that respect, he said, "Education is as water and air, the right of every human being". Consequently, in his hands, education became free and Egyptians started getting free education. He also transformed many of the Quranic schools into primary schools and converted a number of high schools into colleges such as the Graduate Schools of Medicine and Agriculture. He is also credited with establishing a number of new universities.

Taha Hussein held the position of chief editor of a number of newspapers and wrote innumerable articles. He was also a member of several scientific academies in Egypt and around the world.

in a case of war, this is very bad. Basically all the AA systems were compromised at this point, even a bigger fuck up if the SAA just let it happen

A brief history.

When the Arab Spring erupted and protesters arose to oust Assad, the U.S., Turkey and the Gulf Arabs aided and equipped Syrian rebels willing to take up arms. The "good rebels," however, were routed and elements of al-Qaida soon assumed dominance of the resistance.

Facing defeat, Syria's president put out a call to his allies—Russia, Iran, Hezbollah—to save his regime. They responded, and Assad, over four years, recaptured all of Syria west of the Euphrates, save Idlib.

There, the latest fighting has pushed 900,000 more refugees to Turkey's southern border.

The 21st-century interventions and wars of the West in the Islamic world have not gone well.

George W. Bush was goaded into invading Iraq. Barack Obama was persuaded to overthrow Colonel Moammar Gadhafi in Libya and the Assad regime in Damascus. Obama ordered U.S. forces to assist Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in his war to crush Houthi rebels who had ousted Riyadh's resident puppet in Yemen.

And what has the West reaped from our Mideast wars?

In Syria and Yemen, we have helped to create two of the world's greatest human rights disasters. In Libya, we have a new civil war. In Iraq, we now battle Iran for influence inside a nation we "liberated" in 2003

In Afghanistan, we have concluded a deal with our enemy of two decades, the Taliban, that will enable us to pull our 12,000 troops out of the country in 14 months and let our Afghan allies work it out, or fight it out, with the Taliban. America is washing its hands of its longest war.

In five wars over 20 years, we lost 7,000 soldiers with some 40,000 wounded. We plunged the wealth of an empire into these wars.

And what did these wars produce for the peoples we went to aid and uplift, besides hundreds of thousands of dead Afghans and Arabs and millions of people uprooted from their homes and driven into exile?

>Taha Husayn was born in Egypt in 1889. At the age of 5, he lost his eyesight due to a disease. Traditionally, he went to Maktab-Khana and memorized the whole Qur'an. In 1902, he entered al-Azhar and studied there until 1908. During this period, he learned fiqh, usul, Arabic grammar and logic under teachers such as Muhammad 'Abduh, Muhammad Bakhit (Mufti of Egypt), Muhammad Hasanayn al-'Adwi, Muhammad Mustafa al-Maraghi, Muhammad Radi and 'Ashur al-Sadafi. He then went to the University of Egypt and earned his PhD in Arabic literature. Then, he went to France and earned a PhD in History from Sorbonne University.

>Since 1919, he began teaching the history of Greece and Rome at Cairo university and after a while, he accepted the directorship of the department of literature at this university. Between 1950 to 1952, he was the minister of Ma'arif, but after the fall of the cabinet of Wafd party, he withdrew from politics. During his ministry, Taha Husayn announced the secondary and technical educations free for all and intended to make higher education free too. During the final days of his life, he received United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights. He passed away in 1973 at the age of 84.
