They go “look here is my study that proves my point” if one of them knows the study they’ll find a way to reinterpret it so that it doesn’t prove their point, if they aren’t they just go “I’m not familiar with that I’ll have to look into it” and they never do.

A few months ago I saw this video on the "alt-right pipeline" and some blokes personal experiences and how seeing alternative content provided a more "whole" picture.
