(5) Stockpiling of useless shit (like diapers) leads to chronic shortages of goods, worsening the situation modestly and inducing more fear (repeat step 1)

It's alright to want to be prepared; people aren't dumb for feeling otherwise. They aren't prepared and should be scared-ish. That being said, they're stockpiling food and diapers like the world is about to end. It won't. China proves that this will pass in ~2-4 months.

Unlikely desu. There's so many antibiotics out there and so many antibiotics actively being researched that it's unlikely any pandemic diseases will be resistant. If they were, we'd notice and could find antibiotics that were needed, then just dump them in infected areas. Modern pandemics like SARS, MERS, and Corona (technically they're all corona viruses) are viral, and thus you need antivirals instead that are a lot harder to come by.

The funny thing if you look at this pic is that this Costco is unusually non-busy. Typically at each open register at a Costco there will be 2 or 3 people in line during average times. Having 0-2 people in line and not many people in the background in general means this was not busy at all. Would be funny seeing this chink load up on that many diapers and lysol in calm times like that.

What happened in China doesn't prove a single thing. First, they have already been proven to be lying out their ass about their current situation. Second, the pandemic is going to take a serious foothold in numerous countries (see: Iran) and create new epicenters of the outbreak. Even if 95% of countries contain today's outbreaks (VERY generous number) the remaining 5% will be breeding grounds providing a constant source to deal with. You won't see an end to this for another year unless there is a fortuitous series of mutations that make this virus less of a problem.
