Compared to Germany they actually had functional carriers and a huge fleet of cruisers and battleships. Why was it that Italy had a decent Navy and a decent airforce yet a shit ground army? Like their infantry was OK but had very dated equipment and lacked sufficient vehicles and tanks.
The Italians had a decent Navy in WW2

Italians didn't know how to innovate or even copy. They had machine guns that required oiled stripper clips for god's sake. No wonder they lost to Ethiopians before needing to use chlorine gas.
Mussolini believed his money was best spent in the navy and they had top of the line ships. Roma was actually almost on par with Iowa class battleships. But lacked high end radar. Some say the only redeeming quality they had was their navy and their few late war planes like the M.C 202 and the Folgore Jet program.
germans are evil
The Italians betrayed Germania. Roma was just a victim of circumstance. Poor gal.
finally someone who's studying instead of randomly shooting bullshit...
if the Americans had supported italy and germany there would no longer be rothshilds, rockefellers, morgans, federal reserve, european central bank and world hunger would be extinct.
Their navy was large but shit. Despite it's smaller size the Kriegsmarine was far more effective. The Italian navy was a "fair weather" navy, they didn't have radar, good communication and their ships were unstable in in storms and bad weather.
Also freemason niggers and illuminati niggers would be dead.
They had radar. Just not good radar compared to the Royal Navy.
I love the Italians. I wish you guys didn't cave so early. Bagolio was the reason for this.
Germans would have been literally better off if the Italians did nothing
what use is an navy if you have a zero economic and military planning before invading countries left and right, then youre navy is just going to sit in port
>hunger would be extinct
thats not how authoritarian socialism works, all economic potential would be put in wartime production and rearmament for ever increasing amounts of terror wars as they always do
They weren't ready
You want to defeat hunger and suffering in the world? Really? Well kill the Jewish moneylenders up to the tenth degree of kinship. Simple. With a genocide of 1000 people you save the life of an entire planet.
America was already compromised long before WW2.
The problem with the italian military was not their equipment, it was the italians themselves. They routinely got their shit pushed in, in almost every engagement with equal strength enemies because they were not tactically sound or disciplined. Germany basically carried them and it ended up costing them (Germany). Tldr, Italy was the D league of the axis trio.
beretta 38 is better than the mp40

the british air raid that sank the italian fleet in Taranto inspired the japanese raid on Pearl Harbor.
Every ship that was hurt in the attack survived and was raised.
>oiled stripper clips
Should have known better than to google that
>Why was it that Italy had a decent Navy and a decent airforce yet a shit ground army
First off Italy did not have a decent airforce
Their fighters were outdated by the start of the conflict
Their navy was up to snuff, but for the rest of their military was lacking to be generous
Their ground forces severely lacked motorization
Their command structure was also fucked
The 3 services operated independent of each other largely
Italy lacked the industrial capacity of Germany, let alone Britian, France, etc
All critical resources for war production and continuance had to in large be imported, the did not do any stockpiling before the war started
As far as their military spending goes I've seen conflicting #s, but whatever they spent it clearly wasn't enough
best fighter plane of the war was italian and the luftwaffe admitted it.
reddit moment
It was crap with a crap crew
Their spending was pathetic
Axis navies sucked, allies radar fire control and proximity fused shells were massive technological advantages they had no way to overcome.
>best fighter plane of the war was italian and the luftwaffe admitted it.
I'm sure all 35 of them were fantastic
It was complicated to produce and by the time they got any out the door Italy was already done for
Same problem with the Me262
Was a fantastic machine that was introduced far too late in too few #s to make a difference
italy didn't had carriers. They were converting some ships into them, but never finished
To be fair, Italy wasn't really industrialized except for Habsburg Lombardy. Everywhere else was agricultural shitland. Regionalism was high and most officers came from Sardinia Piedmont. The officers were WW1 level incompetant like the Japanese, but individual soldiers were decent and in some cases braver than a German. Also, people really didn't support the war. Just look at how many of them surrendered and defected to allied established republic of Italy.
It looks like russian lincor Novorossiisk
Dear people of pol. Why Is pol so obsessed with Italians? Fuggin give it a break already, for chisstsake, it's gettin fukin old you know what I'm sayin?
Jesus.
novorossysk was conte di cavour class, named giulio cesare
Hickory Dickory Dock...
because unlike Goering, our economy ministers built stable economy, not suicidal juggernauts that would have collapsed if Germany hadn't started the war.
Hjalmar Schacht was doing miracles, Goering squandered it.
the axis shouldve put more men in east africa
this, if they blocked the hormuz canal, the indian supplies would have been slowed significantly.
Italy made beautiful ships.
Their ships were among the best technologically, but they were struck with hilarious supply issues throughout the war.
>"The Model 1934 was extremely accurate and was able to deliver very consistent and predictable patterns with devastating hitting power - with the ammunition used for trials. Unfortunately, the materials and supply process in Italy works differently than it does in most other countries. In the U.S., for example, if one wished to test a sample of 16" shells, they might pull an example from stock, and inspect it directly. In Italy, the firm producing the equipment would have the advantage of providing the item for test, thereby possibly delivering an example which would be of atypically good quality with respect to serialized units. This was the problem with the Model 1934 - the firms producing the ammunition did not all produce projectiles of proper quality."
>"Admiral Iachino complained about this in post-war books. Some actions showed a run of good projectiles, where others were plagued by terribly bad examples. Possibly the greatest contrast was seen between the shooting of Littorio in the first battle of Sirte Gulf and that of Vittorio Veneto in the 28 March Guado encounter. Despite the fact that Littorio was shooting at targets 32,000 yards away while Veneto was attacking at first Orion and afterwards Gloucester at only 24,000 yards, the Littorio's shot groups were significantly more consistent, despite the greater range, doubtlessly owing to a batch of properly fabricated 381-mm projectiles."
>-Maurizio Di Sciullo
There's an anecdote of the supply chain being so fucked at points that Italian bombers were seen dropping 6" naval shells on ships because they couldn't consistently arm them with proper AP bombs.
we must also point out that the navy officers were loyal to the Monarchy and all passed to the allies once Fascism fell.
The nazis had fucking cruise missiles?
our debt to gdp in 1939 was 30% (with the same level of inflation like the netherlands) while the british were at 120%.
All was working fine until 1945. We did not needed war but later in the war was it either winning or losing it all.
glide bomb fritz x but i guess the v1 can be considered a cruise missile. Germany even had air to air missiles toward the end of the war.
Not as bad as the Brits, but both of these raids were done to stop the aquisition of valuable ships by your enemies.
And guess which nation had the single job to do this but instead went full retard WE WUZ ROMANZ NSHEIT?
french ships were used by both sides after they surrendered
NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND THAT THE JEWS SABOTAGED THE ITALIAN WAR TECHNOLOGY AFTER MUSSOLINI BURNED THE PUBLIC (((DEBT))?
do you really think engineers capable of creating this (pic) are not capable of creating war machines?
anyone in the world thinks that Italians are dumb, lazy and morons, but I ask you a question: why are we so renowned? just for bad reputation?
Another thing: if we are able (we were able before the European Union) to do things like that even though we are a corrupt and mafia country, what would we be able to do with evolution?
my life for Italy
Blockading Hormuz would have required control of Suez. You can't park a navy just anywhere, you need to be able to actually resupply and refuel your ships.
>Why was it that Italy had a decent Navy
Italy is surrounded by water
>decent airforce
Italy had a lot of air pioneers and the fascist government poured resources into that
>poor army
Officers and generals were royalist traitors who sabotaged any serious effort
Also their navy couldn't do much because it was out of fuel most of the time.
Bro our "Navy" was good, but it wasn't comparable to the UK's or the US', we had at most 2 battleships and an unfinished carrier, whereas UK and US had dozens of battleships. We had no chance to win in the sea.
> Italy had a decent Navy
italy was too afraid to sail them, so they got raped by british biplanes whislt hiding in ports. which the japs studied for their raid on pearl
the italian empire had one fucking job.
it would be better if those idiots never joined then at least would the med route be closed/irrelevant so no third front.
this, it' like having a good sword, but no arm to wield it. Italy totally lacked the industrial and logistical might to sustain a modern major conflict.
All belligerants had to struggle with those points, the US had the best response, to the point thay had the ability to provide for their allies, while in the axis camp, they were fighting for resources, and often would not be able to even do stuff together , just bc lack of resources and logistics.
Hell, Spain couldn't even enter the war, because Franco told Hitler I'll fight with you but you gotta provide ammo, fuel and food, and Hitler said nvm.
this is Italy at its core, even today.
>Roma.jpg
>is actually Littorio
Dumb weeb.
Imagine nazi tow missiles wrecking siviet artillery and supplies.
We had a decent navy. But Admiral Darlan was very rightwing, and when he became minister of war, he did'nt want to risk his precious ships against the germans, which he felt were not the real ennemy. He thought preserving the navy for future struggles against communists was the thing to do.
tfw you think about tomorow but not today, and then your precious precious navy disappears in shame and tragedy.
Darlan gettibg assassinated late in the war by french partisans to prevent him to get to power in America's wagons is one of the most karma moments ever.
Even if Italy never joined the war, the flow of supplies through the Mediterranean to Britain was a problem for Germany. Had Suez actually been taken, s it would have forced convoys carrying supplies to Britain to route around the cape of good hope exclusively, lengthening the trip and making them far more vulnerable to German U-Boats. Britain may well have been starved into submission that way.
can shitalians do anything right
