1. There are many animals that mate for life. Some of them (eg. penguins) never mate again if their mate dies.
2. Even in animals that have alpha-dominated harems, it isn't the women who seek out the alpha, but are rather forced to by rape and violence; while beta males are driven away from the alpha's territory by violence, because whenever there is a beta around, females will frequently split away from the alpha's harem to pursue the beta male.
