I've watched it since December. It has not even a 1% death rate in South Korea (just under .66%). Japan's a little worse at just around 1.5%, and Italy's the worst at around 4.2% - 4.4% mortality.

The Diamond Princess had 696 cases (they were sailing prior to February with infected on board) and to this date, out of those 696 cases (over 2,000 people were on board) only 6 has died, all of them being over 50 years old I believe. Thats about a .9% death rate.

This isn't the end of the world or civilization as many are lead onto believe by doomers. It will certainly cause panic. What I recommend you do, is spend a lot of time secluded, outside. There's no way to know the number of wild cases.
There's no useful relationship between total cases and confirmed cases, therefore.
The only useful data that you can use right now is how many people require medical treatment end up dying and recovering.
In other words, the number dead divided by the sum of number dead and recovered.
Then, you can communicate this as: If you require medical attention, you are this likely to die. (It's about 7.5% right now)
NO other number has any basis in fact at this point, they're all just guesswork
The diamond princess is the single, and sole example of useful data to date, and we don't know the population demographics of infected, or anything useful. It could've killed 100% of the asians on board, or 100% of the people who smoked, or something like that. But instead it's just "6" people (and counting)

This certainly isn't a virus which will kill everyone, but until someone takes the stage and says "this kills smoking asians and nobody else" everyone will try to avoid contracting it.. which they should, to avoid stressing the medical capacity of their nation, and the side effects of that avoidance will be economic damage and stress on distribution networks, which will be more fatal than the disease.

USA isn't testing anyone unless there are symptoms, problem is most people who have it are asymptomatic, and the ones that get ill have a death rate of around 3-4%. Germany and SK are good examples.
