Not really. Americans are relatively unique in that our nationality is not tied to our ethnicity. There's some hillbillies in Appalachia that call themselves "ethnic Americans", but they're a few hundred years old at most. Most people in the world are the indigenous people of their lands. To say "I'm a Serb" is saying a lot more than when an American says "I'm an American", or worse yet something state specific like "I'm a Texan". Americans can only imagine the depth of pride one could feel being indigenous to their land. For us it amounts to "I like living here" or "yea my grandparents came from Italy 3 generations ago and settled here".
