I grew up poor, dad died in a car crash when I was 6 leaving my mum with 3 kids. What got us through was her working 14 hours a day, neighbours charity and government support. I went to uni (basically free here) became an engineer, earn $120k pa, my tax (approximately 40%) has paid off everything plus more, and will continue to do so, I'm eternally greatfull to have been born in a system where other peoples tax dollars gave me a chance.
