If he made more stronger restrictions earlier everyone would be screaming that it was racist and he was causing panic and then you'd have courts and judiciaries overturning it just like they tried to do with the travel ban. If he was lenient on the travel restrictions -- well then the virus is all his fault. There is no politics to this, it was guaranteed to get here and spread no matter what because we are just too interconnected as a society. People are able to move and travel too freely. Short of a complete ban on all international travel and closed borders, I don't think you could have prevented the spread into the US

He did impose early travel restrictions. The point I was making was that it wouldn't have mattered what he did, it would have either been called too little or too much by the critics. And then my second point was that it would have spread regardless. Based on what we know about this virus, its pretty much inevitable that its going to spread - the question is going to be its actual mortality rate, which we have no idea what that number really looks like because China is dishonest with the numbers.

I'm certain the initial wave mortality rate of this shit will be low enough to lull people into a possibly false sense of complacency once testing becomes more widespread.
Reinfection/recrudescence rate and antibody dependent enhancement are unconfirmed factors, however, which appear to be possibilities, and depending on how frequent/deadly they are, could turn this into an extinction-level event.
This doesn't appear to be a world-ender based on what is absolutely confirmed about the virus, but reacting to numbers based on what we know about the virus without considering possibilities that there's a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing towards could lead to our doom.
tl;dr: It's not time to panic yet, but it is also not time to let our guard down. We need to be studying and preparing for the possibilities of reinfection/recrudescence and antibody dependent enhancement while keeping a level head.
