Prior to sanctions I spent several years working in Russia. My background is in power generation which more often than not is linked to oil & gas industry. One of the things I understood pretty much straight away is that western perception of an ordinary Russian is fucked up and inaccurate. We could of course spend hours finding countless flaws in Russia as a country and the people who inhabit it. But I honestly came to a conclusion that they will survive much longer than anyone in western Europe or US for that matter. You cannot ignore the fact that they have the ability to pull together in a way that is long lost in UK for example. This is why the colour revolution or any sort of disturbance has not taken place no matter how many people expected it to occur.
