They did everything to let Hitler get what he wanted, when he occupied the Rhineland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, etc. Even the declaration of war was hardly starting it, its called the phoney war for a reason. France fell with no real resistance and that started the real war as it emboldened Italy and Japan to join. That was only caused by France through their appeasement and weakness. Hitler expanded it by invading the USSR, which he couldn't win.
