I can't prove this, but back during the 2016 election I followed it really intently. Like autistically. Obsessively. I studied and research and did a lot of stupid digging that some dumb internet-user would do. From what I was able to do, and this is just my own informed assessment, Hillary Clinton is some sort of high priestess to them. For the faction of elites that are enmeshed in this sort of dark, gnostic, abrahamic religion (It's not really satanism, but not really judaism. It's closer to judaism though. They basically worship the abrahamic god, but they know its evil) Hillary seems to be a major spiritual leader for them. Of course, she DID run in 2008 as well, and lose the nomination, but that too was a different, and Obama had been pre-ordained to run well beforehand. Go back to the 2004 DNC convention and when he gave the keynote speech (which in itself was weird since he was a freshmen senator) they basically announced him publicly as the next president of the USA.

Oooof, user. Going into the 2016 election I can't say I had any faith at all in him. I sided with him and defended him a lot online, and made memes and all that stupid shit, just because I thought his PLATFORM was objectively better than Hillary's (and it was, even though he didn't hold to it at all). And because the media attacks on him were so brutal. But I never really expected him to be any different than any other president.
Then, for a little while, after he first got elected, I got sort of "sucked in". It was the whole thing with the electoral college that it to me, if anyone remembers that. They weren't even going to give him the presidency. Then came the Mueller probe, which after reading Wikileaks was totally insane to me, since it was basically Hillary and all of the dems that were PROVEN guilty of collusion with foreign governments. It was just so mindbendingly in the opposite direction of reality that it managed to warp my brain. I started meme-ing and defending Trump everywhere I went against these obviously untrue accusations that eventually I started defending things I really don't believe in. I started defending tax cuts for the rich. I started defending his "limited strikes" on Syria, and then later the boots on the ground. I started defending many of his failures on immigration. I started defending when he wore that Yamacha and touched the wall in Israel. I started fucking denying global warming at some point. IDK. I got sucked in cuz the vitriol on the other side was SO bad. They kept screaming at me, calling me "TREASONOUS" (and treason is a death penalty offense).
